| 'Gone
But Not Forgotten - Memories of the Liverpool Overhead
Railway' is
the working title for a documentary film currently
in production. |
| |
| Although
the technical background of this unique piece of technology,
(which was revolutionary for it's time) is important, the
emphasis on the documentary is on peoples memories of the
Overhead, also known as 'The Dockers Umbrella'. |
| |
| This
is not a typical or conventional documentary film.
This film will be narrated by real people
with real memories about this important piece of
local history. No historians or Television presenters
will be present in the film. This
means the people we interview will become as much
a part of the film making process
as anyone else. Their stories will dictate the narrative
of the film. In essence, this is a film (aside from
myself and the films co-producer) that will be made
entirely by the people
who knew the Overhead and experienced it first hand. |
| |
There
are not many people around who remember the Overhead,
and when they are gone, so are their memories. It is
my intention to preserve these memories and put them
on film so that they last forever.
|
| |
| The
film will also contain animated sequences from a computer
generated re-construction of the Overhead, as
it was during the 1950's. The CGI work can be viewed
by following the links above. However this is still a
work in progress. The finished film will contain
more sequences and more polished looking images. |
| |
| We
are still looking for people who remember the 'Dockers
Umbrella' to take part in this film. We just want to
know about your
memories,
your experiences. Nothing clever. We want to know what
it was like to ride on it, how it felt, the sights, the
sounds. All those things
that you may
think will
be trivial will be more relevant than you may well think. |
| |
| Filming
has already begun, and we have already learned some fascinating
stories from the people who took part.
Stories about how it affected peoples lives, what it
meant to them, and what it still means to them today.
Most importantly, these
are stories you will not find in any history books, museums,
or on
any
websites. |
